Support modification
In certain cases it is necessary to modify the amount of child support or alimony awarded in an initial order. Often times, the reason for modification is a significant deviation in a party's income or a significant change in the child's needs. Modifications are typically hard-fought cases and take a long time to litigate. The party requesting modification must show that there has been a "substantial change in circumstances" from the initial order. The remarriage of one of the parties does not, by itself, warrant a modification.
