Pedestrian is Killed in Hit and Run Crash in Marlboro County, SC

|

Hit and run crashes are far from uncommon on the highways of South Carolina. Earlier this month South Carolina Highway Patrol reported on a deadly hit and run crash in Marlboro County.

The accident occurred on Old Wire Road near Aaron Temple Church Road. Investigators said a car struck a pedestrian before the driver fled the scene.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified Charles McCall, 38, as the pedestrian killed in the accident.

South Carolina Highway Patrol officers said they were looking for a vehicle with possible damage to the front and undercarriage of the vehicle. Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was on the scene gathering evidence to determine the make and model of the vehicle.

It's bad enough when a driver strikes a pedestrian or another motorist, leaving the victim injured. It's even worse when a driver flees the scene of an accident.

In April, 2014, police released video footage of an alleged hit and run driver in Columbia. The State reported the accident at Gervais and Harden Streets in the city. A female pedestrian was hit in the crosswalk on Gervais Street by a car heading away from downtown. Police said she was taken to a local hospital with broken bones but otherwise non-life-threatening injuries.
